For more than 54 years, Confederate Woods Veterinary hospital has been a family-owned practice serving Adams County, Pennsylvania. The hospital was originally founded by Dr. Dick Newsham in 1960. After 20 years of serving the Gettysburg community, Dr. Newsham retired, and Dr. Dale Dickey acquired the practice in the fall of 1980.
Dr. Jody Dickey purchased the practice from her father in 2007, continuing the same exemplary pet care provided by her father and keeping Confederate Woods “in the family.” Since that time, the Confederate Woods doctor team has grown to include Dr. Kelly Smiley and Dr. Emily Lantzsch, each with more than 5 years of veterinary experience and unique areas of specialization.
Expanded services and much more
Over the years, the support staff and services have also grown. Beyond traditional wellness services, medical services, and surgery, we have expanded the types of services we provide to include chiropractic medicine, acupuncture, orthopedic surgery, and pocket-pet medicine and surgery.
Our new hospital
After several years of planning (and dreaming), our hospital has recently undergone a physical transformation. Although we provided excellent care in our original building, our staff and services had far outgrown the space. We began construction in August of 2013 to build a brand new 4300 square foot hospital at our original location. To minimize the impact of construction on our patients and clients, we packed up the hospital and moved right down the street to a temporary home while the new state-of-the-art hospital was built.
In March 2014, after seven months at our temporary location, we moved into our beautiful new hospital. Our new facility allows us to provide the best possible preventative medicine, medical care, surgical care, and dental services to our special patients and their owners. We invite you to take a tour.
Refer a friend to our hospital, and we'll give them 50% off their pet's first exam and we'll give you a special thank you too.
